Wrongly classified accounts are those that were assigned incorrectly during registration. This could be a company profile which has been set up as a private account in order to inspire more confidence among visitors. Undesirable Facebook accounts are considered those profiles which deliberately violate the platform’s terms of use, by intentionally using false information. This happens primarily to spread spam, hiding behind non-existing personas. But fake Facebook profiles also include second and third party accounts of real persons. Facebook estimates that worldwide, up to 13 percent of all accounts fall into these two categories. This means that considering the 2.1 billion users per month, approximately 270 million accounts are to be considered facke. However, the distribution of fake-accounts across the globe is not uniform. Facebook records significantly more fake accounts in emerging markets such as Indonesia and India. In Germany on the other side, the figure is expected to be significantly lower.
