Elizabeth Hamren drove the marketing efforts for Oculus, working there for almost two years. She will now be instrumental in consumer launch of the Microsoft HoloLens.
The Mixed Reality Push
The information comes from an internal email sent to The Verge. Hamren will also be marketing mixed reality Windows headsets in general, says CVP Yusuf Mehdi: “I am thrilled to announce that after a thorough search, we have found an ideal leader in Elizabeth Hamren, the former CMO of Oculus VR at Facebook,” he writes. “Liz will be joined by Jeff Hansen, Sandhya Thodla and their teams, who have been doing great work driving our progress to date. As CVP of Mixed Reality Marketing, Liz will be responsible for driving the global business and marketing strategy, working closely with our internal partners in engineering, Windows product marketing, integrated marketing, the MCB and Commercial teams, and external partners around the world. We have big, bold goals for mixed reality and the impact it can have on our overall Windows and Devices Group ambition to create more personal computing.” Hamren comes just in time to join the executive retreat and will be on-site at Redmond very soon. Her marketing experience spans over twenty years, so it’s smart and much-needed move by Microsoft. It comes just in time for the release of Windows Mixed Reality headsets, with Acer shipping recently and Dell and HP coming soon. No doubt we’ll be hearing a lot about them in the coming months.
