Essentially, the tool allows shoppers using Microsoft Bing to sort items by how environmentally ethical they are. Microsoft’s announcement came last Friday, which was Earth Day 2022. As for the feature, it is available in the shopping section on Microsoft Bing. When a user enters a search term, like “trousers”, on the left pane there are Ethical Value filters like “Eco-Friendly materials”, “Organic”, Recycled/Upcycled materials”, “Fairtrade”, and “Vegan.” Bing also assigns Ethical Ratings to items where the engine uses data from Good On You to highlight the ethical qualities of a product. In this section, it is possible to filter results to remove those that do not have the Ethical Rating. Those items that are on Good On You also feature an “Ethical Choice” icon that highlights which items have been rated. Hovering on these products reveals their rating. Furthermore, users can burrow further and read more about the ratings, how they are given, the criteria in use, and a description of the product.
Shopify Integration
Microsoft has been beefing up the shopping experience on Bing over the last year. As well as the ethical push, the company also announced a collaboration with Shopify in 2021. Specifically, the collaboration brings product listings from 1.7 million Shopify sellers to Microsoft’s services. In Microsoft Bing and Microsoft Edge, the new integration can be found in the Shopping tab. Here users can find listed Shopify products quickly. When a merchant adds a product, it will automatically be included on the Shopping tab for Bing and Microsoft Start for free.
