The Nvidia BFGDs will come with G-Sync to deliver high-end gaming performance. The company says Shield will be integrated into the displays, which means apps and features like Google Assistant will be on board. It is perhaps good to think of these as giant Smart TVs designed for the gaming market. Other important specs of the BFGDs is a 120Hz refresh rates and 4K support. This is not the first gaming monitor announced with G-Sync, but it may be the first to actually reach the market. Last year Acer announced its own 27-inch 4K HDR monitor with 144Hz, but the company has not released it. Perhaps that Acer product will never arrive now the company is building one of Nvidia’s display. Acer never got as far as pricing the display and incidentally Nividia has not put a price on the BFGD.
Impacting the PC Market
Nvidia is becoming an increasingly big part of the PC market and it will get more attention at CES this year. Of course, the company is huge, but has mostly stayed behind the niche of gaming. However, as we reported last year, the company saw a near 30% increase in GPU shipments. This allowed the company to remain ahead of AMD in the market and suggests gamers will have an increasing say in PC sales. While consumers are largely turning away from PCs, hardcore gaming has a dedicated following that is pushing sales to record levels. So, while Intel and AMD have big announcements at CES 2018, it is interesting to see what Nvidia continues to do.
