According to Android Police, Spotify is testing a new feature for its app that bring group listening to the streaming service. Specifically, the feature would allow multiple users to listen to the same streaming session. This would still be done on separate devices, but controls such as song switching, and playlists will be shared. The app used to put a real focus on social aspects but has pared them back in recent years. We guess being able to share a stream in a group will be a big hit. Software watcher Jane Manchun Wong has spotted this feature in the wild and highlighted how it works.

Most interesting will be how the company deals with users who want to skip a song when maybe another doesn’t or control the playlist outside what everyone else in the group wants.
Microsoft Interest
As we reported earlier this week, Spotify may have once been of interest to Microsoft. Apparently, the company was interested in acquiring the music streaming service. Microsoft’s music efforts have always fallen flat and the company missed the boat completely with music streaming. Buying Spotify when it was relative fledgling would have made sense. Microsoft could have allowed the company to grow and have a ready-made success.
